Redesigning the Hole Punch

Designing in Context.

For one of our modules we had to take an everyday product and redesign it for a new or expanded target audience by changing its materials.

I have redesigned the standard office hole punch to become a lightweight portable product. I have designed it so that it fits inside a folder. The central section has holes cut into it to allow it to sit within the ring binders. It is only intended to punch through up to three pieces of paper at a time, so it is not necessary to have a base plate to punch on to or a collection tray, so I have been able to design it without these extra components. Also as it is only cutting through such a small amount of paper it needs less leverage, so the dimensions of the top section of the body can be reduced.

The original hole punch drawn, assembled and rendered in Solidworks.

The re-design also drawn assembled and rendered using Solidworks.
